Residents of Hebrew Health Care (HHC) who are veterans of the U.S. armed services joined four members of the Teen Leadership and Philanthropy Institute (TLPI) for a ride on a Memorial Day Parade float sponsored by the Institute. The veterans represented four branches of the United States military: Marines, Navy, Army and WAC. The Teen Leadership and Philanthropy Institute is a program that teaches Jewish teens civic and philanthropic responsibilities as citizens of our community.
Of course, it wasn’t the first time the teens have embarked on joint activities with HHC residents or initiated projects to help enhance the senior adults’ quality of life. Over the years, students have done annual Chanukah projects with the residents and have funded the purchase of all sorts of needed items, including outdoor furnishings, large-print library books, and a flat-screen TV for the Adult Day Lounge. This year, the teens voted to fund the float because they wanted to honor the vets, while also providing them with a meaningful social experience.
