Lucille Mandell, a resident of Hoffman SummerWood in West Hartford, is among 47 senior adults to be awarded an “honorable mention” for her submission in the Assisted Living Federation of America’s (ALFA) Senior Living Art Showcase. Mandell’s submission – a beach scene collage made of torn pieces of paper — was one of more than 900 sent in to ALFA from residents of senior living communities all across the country. Entitled “Great Grandmother and Great Grandson,” Mandell’s award-winning artwork, along with other winning submissions, will be emblazoned on a t-shirt and featured on the ALFA website (www.alfa.org). Mandell described her reaction to learning of her win: “I made a hole in the ceiling, I jumped so high with excitement!”
