HARTFORD – Dr. Ross A. Benthien of West Hartford has been elected president of the Connecticut Orthopaedic Society. Benthein was elected president at the more than 275-member Society at the organization’s annual meeting held in Farmington on May 10.
A board-certified orthopedic surgeon in practice with Orthopaedic Associates of Hartford, Benthien received his medical degree, with distinction, and Master’s in Public Health from George Washington University and completed his orthopaedic residency at the University of Connecticut, where he now serves as assistant clinical professor of orthopaedic surgery. Benthien completed a Fellowship in Foot and Ankle at Mercy and Union Memorial Hospitals in Baltimore and is on the medical staff at Hartford Hospital and Orthopaedic Associates of Hartford Surgery Center.
Benthien and his family are members of Congregation Beth Israel in West Hartford.
Also at the Annual Meeting, Dr. F. Scott Gray of Ridgefield was elected vice president of the Society. A founding partner of Connecticut Family Orthopedics in Danbury, Gray is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon. He is the former Orthopaedic Trauma Coordinator at Danbury Hospital and serves on many professional organizations. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University Medical School and completed his orthopaedic residency at Tufts New England Medical Center in Massachusetts. Dr. Gray is the husband of Cantor Deborah Katchko-Gray of Temple Shearith Israel in Ridgefield.
Avon resident and Torrington orthopaedic surgeon, Dr. Mariam Hakim-Zargar, was elected the Society’s secretary/treasurer. She is a board-certified foot and ankle orthopaedic surgeon on staff at Charlotte Hungerford Hospital. She received her medical degree from the University of Louisville School of Medicine in Kentucky and a Master’s in public health from Boston University School of Public Health in Massachusetts. She completed her residency and fellowship at the University of Connecticut and has received numerous research awards.
