orchard stCongregation Beth Israel in New Haven – aka the “Orchard Street Shul” – was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the Connecticut Trust for Historic Preservation for work it did to restore the historic synagogue. Beth Israel was among eight individuals and organizations to be recognized for their work at a ceremony held at the State Capitol in April. The Trust’s Executive Director Helen Higgins (left) presented the certificate to the shul’s leadership, including (l to r) Lee Liberman, president; Mark Shiffrin, vice president; and Rabbi Mendy Hecht.
