Alice Marion (nee Schwartz) of Downingtown, Penn., formerly of Orange, died Feb. 7, 2013. Wife of the late Morris, Mother of Mara Beth (Kenneth Pomerantz), Paul Lewis and Robert (Lisa Piccirillo) Lewis. Grandmother of Ian and Marissa Pomerantz, Chloe and Talia Lewis. Alice was born on March 29, 1920 in Philadelphia, Penn. She was the seventh child of eight born to Marion and Samuel Schwartz. Her father passed away when she was 4 and she was raised by her mother with the help of older brothers and sisters. She was admitted to High School for Girls in Philadelphia and graduated in 1938. Although she excelled in her studies, especially French language and literature, she was not able to go to college and went to secretarial school. She married Morris Lewis in 1946 and relocated to the New Haven area where he began a dental practice. She eventually went to college while raising three children and graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in French education. Alice tutored children with emotional difficulties, substitute taught and worked in the acquisitions department at Yale University until her retirement. She enjoyed music, theater, reading, drawing and painting, dancing and playing bridge. She was interred at Har Jehuda Cemetery, Upper Darby, Penn.
