Inscribing a legacy for generations

To celebrate its 60th anniversary, Beth El Temple has embarked on a year-long project to write a Torah – and the Conservative West Hartford shul wants the entire community to have a hand in it. And so, on Monday, Feb. 4, Beth El packed up the parchment scroll and quill – and the sofer (scribe) who is overseeing the writing of the Torah – and paid a visit to Hebrew Health Care in West Hartford, where senior adult residents were given the opportunity to inscribe a letter in the Torah. The synagogue is also hosting several days in which members of the community – both Beth El members and non-members – can stop by and take part in this important mitzvah by inscribing a letter or dedicating a section in the Torah scroll.  The next Torah letter-writing dates are Sundays and Mondays, March 10 and 11, and April 21 and 22; and Sunday, June 9.
