Martin Melnick, a member of Beth El Temple in West Hartford, has been appointed chair of the Federation of Jewish Men’s Clubs (FJMC) International Torch Awards. FJMC is the international umbrella organization for a confederation of more than 250 men’s auxiliaries serving 25,000 men in the Conservative movement throughout the United States and Canada.
The Torch Awards recognize member clubs that develop quality and innovative programming. Many of the central FJMC programs – such as the Yom HaShoah Yellow Candle program, Build-A-Pair, HMV and Keruv – began as original and creative club programs that won Torch Awards. The Awards, which recognize excellence in programming in 15 separate areas of synagogue life, will be recognized at the International Convention in Boston, Mass this coming July 24-28.
The Beth El Temple Men’s Club has received Torch Awards for its excellence in programming at the 2009 and 2011 International Conventions.
