Three named to Jewish Community Foundation board

Brian Fierston

WEST HARTFORD – The Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Hartford Board of Trustees has announced the election of three new trustees: Brian S. Fierston, Jill J. Hutensky and Melvin A. Simon.
Brian S. Fierston of West Hartford is vice president of Fierston Financial Group, Inc., which he joined in 1991 after working at both Connecticut National Bank and Shawmut Bank in credit analysis. He earned his Bachelors degree from Babson College. Active in many community organizations, he is chair of the Foundation’s Investment Committee, a member of the Board of Trustee at the Watkinson School, and serves as chair of the school’s Investment Committee.
Jill J. Hutensky of West Hartford spent 15 years with United Technologies Corporation, where she most recently managed the corporation’s $5 million charitable giving program. She is currently serving on the Foundation’s Grants Committee, the Board of Overseers of the Bushnell Center for Performing Arts, and the Board of the Center for Children’s Advocacy where she is the treasurer. She has been long active in the Jewish Federation if Greater Hartford, the Greater Hartford Arts Council, and the United Way of Central and Northeastern Connecticut. She holds a Masters degree in public and private management from the Yale School of Management and a Bachelor’s degree from Northwestern University.

Jill Hutensky

Melvin A. Simon of West Hartford is a graduate of Yeshiva University’s Benjamin Cardozo School of Law (J.D., cum laude) and since 1998 has been a partner at the law firm of Cohn, Birnbaum and Shea, PC where he specializes in commercial litigation. Among the organizations in which he has played a leadership role are: the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford, where he served on the Board of Directors and Executive Committee, and the Mandell Jewish Community Center, where he serves on its Board of Directors and Executive Committee and is a past president and chairman of the Board. He also previously served as president of the Jewish Teen Learning Connection, the Jewish Community High School (formerly known as Yachad).
