Veterans celebrate Shavuot & Memorial Day

Pictured here at Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek are: (front row, l to r) Arthur Meyers, Michael Needle, Post 51 Commander Morton Pear, Rabbi Rachel Goldenberg of Beth Shalom Rodphe Zedek, and Harvey Redak; (back row, l to r) Commander Norman Hanenbaum, Sy Feldman, Samuel Rogers, Kevin Fox, Eugene Kalet, Robert Woolf, and Bernard Slater.

Members of Connecticut’s Jewish War Veterans Major General Maurice Rose Post 51 found a thoughtful way to combine the celebration of the holiday Shavuot, which fell on Memorial Day weekend with a remembrance of the soldiers who gave their lives fighting for America. Past Post Commander Norman Hanenbaum prepared readings for a special Shabbat service held at Congregation Beth Shalom Rodfe Zedek in Chester, and veteran Harvey Redak played Taps. The service concluded with the singing of “God Bless America.” In addition, the veterans placed flags at the Veterans Cemetery in Middletown.
