WEST HARTFORD – Actress Mayim Bialik, star of the CBS hit series “The Big Bang Theory,” will be keynote speaker at the Hebrew High School of New England’s (HHNE) annual scholarship event on Thursday evening, June 21 at Beth El Temple in West Hartford. The “Big Bang Event” will mark HHNE’s first anniversary in the school’s new facility on Bloomfield Ave. in West Hartford. The evening’s honorees include the Zachs family and Barbara Zalesch, who will receive the President’s Award for outstanding service to the school.
“HHNE invites the community to join us for our “Big Bang” birthday, as we celebrate our first year in our beautiful new building across from the Mandell JCC and the Zachs Campus,” said Ann Pava, the evening’s co-chair with Loren Gelber. “An increasing amount of students from a wide array of religious and educational backgrounds are choosing HHNE as a premier institution promoting independent thinkers, strong leaders and proud Jews.”
Actress Mayim Hoya Bialik’s breakout role, as a young Bette Midler in “Beaches,” led to a starring role in the popular ‘90s sitcom “Blossom.” She has guest-starred on numerous TV shows and is a regular guest on several late-night talk shows. She appears regularly on “The Big Bang Theory” as Sheldon’s “girl who is his friend, but not his girlfriend.”
Bialik earned her B.S. in neuroscience and Hebrew and Jewish studies from the University of California, Los Angeles in 2000, and her Ph.D. in neuroscience from UCLA in 2007. She released her first book, “Beyond the Sling,” in March.
