Golda’s Balcony in New Milford

Golda Meir

NEW MILFORD – “Golda’s Balcony,” the one-woman production centered on Israel’s first female prime minister, Golda Meir, will be presented at TheatreWorks in New Milford in June.
Written by William Gibson, the play offers a riveting portrait of Golda Meir (portrayed by Sonnie Osborne of New Milford), one of the most fascinating and complex women of our time who rose from Russian immigrant to American schoolteacher to an international political leader as the Jewish state’s fourth prime minister. The story opens in 1973, on the eve of the Yom Kippur War, and uses flashbacks as Golda recounts the story of her life. She describes her role as a socialist Zionist, her emigration to Palestine in 1921, the birth of her two children, and the breakup of her marriage.
“Golda’s Balcony” will be presented June 8, 9  15,16, 22, 23, 24, 29 and 30, 8 p.m. (with one Sunday matinee at 2 p.m.). Tickets are $20. Seniors are invited to a free dress rehearsal on Thursday, June 7, 8 p.m., which is also Pay-What-You-Want night — you name the price for your ticket.
