From Storrs to Danielson University of Connecticut Hillel students traveled to Beth Israel Synagogue in Daniel-son one recent Sunday morning to lend a helping hand in a community revitalization project. Founded by Holocaust survivors and maintained by their children, Beth Israel Synagogue is a Connecticut historical site and is currently seeking to become a national historical site. UConn sophomore Bailey Rosenberg, whose family members are active congregants, initiated the project, and she and several other students helped by priming and painting the synagogue walls and gardening in front of the building. “I felt a connection to doing community service there. They were very thankful,” said UConn Hillel freshman Jared Kaufman. “It was worthwhile donating our time.” Now, both Beth Israel and Hillel look forward to a continued partnership.
