Rabbi Robert Harris to be scholar-in-residence at Cong. B’nai Torah

TRUMBULL — “How Jews Read the Bible” will be the theme of the Second Annual Scholar-in-Residence Weekend hosted by Congregation B’nai Torah in Trumbull April 20 and 21. The weekend will feature a series of talks by scholar-in-residence Rabbi Robert Harris PhD.
Rabbi Harris is associate professor of Bible at the Jewish Theological Seminary (JTS) in New York, where he teaches courses in biblical literature and commentary. An expert on medieval biblical exegesis, Rabbi Harris is the author of numerous books, articles and reviews, and has taught throughout the world — including at Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Russian State University in Moscow and, most recently, at the Gregorian Pontifical University of the Vatican in Rome. He has also been a stand-up comic, an actor in musical theater productions, and regularly performs with his garage band SR2 (Shake, Rabbis and Roll) l.
Rabbi Harris has served as a rabbi at several congregations in the U.S, and Israel. A graduate of the joint program between JTS and Columbia University, he holds a BA in Ancient Studies from Columbia and a BHL in Talmud. He has also earned an MA in Judaica, an MPhil in Bible, rabbinic ordination and a PhD in Bible from JTS.
