Jeffrey Zaslow

Journalist and best-selling author Jeffrey Zaslow, who wrote about life transitions for The Wall Street Journal, was killed on Friday, Feb. 10 when he lost control of his car on a snowy road in Michigan.  The 53-year old resident of suburban Detroit was on his way home after giving a lecture to promote his new book, “The Magic Room: A Story about the Love We Wish for Our Daughters.”
In addition to his latest work, Zaslow was also co-author of three bestselling books: “The Last Lecture,” written with Carnegie Mellon professor Randy Pausch about Pausch’s final lecture in 2007 before dying of pancreatic cancer in July 2008; “The Girls From Ames,” about the enduring friendship of a group of Iowa women; and “Highest Duty,” written with Capt. “Sully” Sullenberger, who famously landed U.S. Airways Flight 1549 in the Hudson River. In 2011, he co-wrote with Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords and her husband, Mark Kelly, the congresswoman’s memoir “Gabby: A Story of Courage and Hope.”
In a 2010 interview with the Connecticut Jewish Ledger, Zaslow talked about his Jewish background …with his trademark sense of humor: “At my daughters’ bat mitzvahs I told them that the Jewish community will always be here for them …and if they’re not here, they’ll be down in Boca, but they’ll be back in April.”
He is survived by his wife, Sherry Margolis, an anchor for Detroit’s WJBK Fox 2, and three daughters.
