UConn Stamford joint Holocaust & Israel Independence Day program

STAMFORD –The Center for Judaic & Middle Eastern Studies at UConn at Stamford will present a wide array of courses and programs for the spring of 2012, including several new offerings. For the first time, the Center will mark Yom Hashoah – Holocaust Remembrance Day — and Yom Ha’atzmaut — Israel Independence Day – together on campus. A collaborative project is being planned for April, in which professors will work with students on a theatrical reading and panel discussion related to Yom Hashoah and Israel studies. The Center will also host Tzahal Shalom soldiers within an academic setting. A lecture and question-and-answer session in which students from a broad range of academic majors interact with the soldiers is also planned. More details about these new spring programs to follow.
In addition to its new spring programs, the Center will continue to provide a wide range of course offerings, including: Literature & Culture of the 3rd World, taught by the Center’s director, Nehama Aschkenasy; Ancient Near East, by Joy Land; The Middle East Crucible taught by Roy Chowdhury; and Political Issues: Middle East Politics taught by Dina Badie.  These courses are open to senior audit for a small fee. For more information contact the Center at (203) 251-9525 or StamfordCJMES@UConn.edu.
