Dr. Vera Schwarcz and Sally Gelb visited students in kindergarten through second grade at the Bess and Paul Sigel Hebrew Academy in Bloomfield recently to read and discuss Josh Hasten’s new book, “Itamar Makes Friends: A Children’s Story of Jewish Brotherhood.” The book tells the story of an eight-year old boy from a small Israeli village who meets boys that seem totally different from him when he visits his cousins in the big city. The two West Hartford women donated multiple copies of the book to the school to be used as part of its Ahavat Yisrael program promoting the “middah” – the value — of tolerance.
