New group for active Jewish singles

"Active Jewish Singles" is geared toward the 55-to-70 age range

WEST HARTFORD – A community partnership that created two groups for Jewish singles now has a third in the works. “Active Jewish Singles” is geared toward the 55-to-70 age range, and will host its first event on Sunday, Sept. 18, 3-5:30 p.m. at The Emanuel Synagogue in West Hartford.
A collaboration of The Emanuel Synagogue, Congregation Beth Israel, The Mandell JCC, Beth Sholom B’nai Israel, and Jewish Family Services of Greater Hartford, active Jewish Singles follows in the footsteps of similar groups geared toward ages 35 to 55, and 65 and up. Francene Weingast represented The Emanuel on the planning committee for the earlier efforts. “Several of my recently widowed friends said, ‘You’re working on something for younger and older singles – how about us?’” she says. “I had already retired from The Emanuel, but I promised to get something started for them.”
The group seeks to provide opportunities for companionship and friendship, Weingast says. The Sept. 18 program includes two workshops, “Keeping Fit after Fifty” and “Traveling as a Single,” followed by an ice-cream social.
