NEW YORK, N.Y. — Eli Bilmes of West Hartford is among 17 young educators to participate in the Legacy Heritage Teacher Training Fellowship sponsored by the Institute for University-School Partnership at Yeshivah University (YU).
The Fellowship, which is part of the YUTeach Fellowship program, is a two-year program that places recent college graduates in communities across North America to begin their careers as educators. The new teachers are provided with support and mentoring within their host schools, in addition to conferences, webinars and check-ins with staff at YU’s Azrieli Graduate School of Jewish Education and Administration. Over three summers, teaching fellows will also earn a Master of Science degree in education at Azrieli through a full-tuition scholarship.
Bilmes, who attended Solomon Schechter Day School and Hall High School in West Hartford and received his Bachelors degree from the University of Maryland, will spend the year as a teacher at Denver’s Academy of Torah.
In addition to Legacy Heritage Teacher Training, the YUTeach Fellowships is also comprised of the GiveBack programs. Three additional teachers are sponsored through the GiveBack Fellowship, a program that identifies graduates to assist with student activities, observe classroom teachers and provide support in other aspects of school programming.
“I look forward to teaching at the Denver Academy of Torah at the base of the Rockies, where I will have a great opportunity to grow as a young Jewish leader and educator,” said Bilmes, who graduated from the University of Maryland with a major in psychology and a minor in Judaic studies.
