Ted Shafer to run for Burlington 1st Selectman

Ted Shafer of Burlington has received the unanimous endorsement of the Burlington Democratic Town Committee as their candidate for First Selectman.
Currently serving his fourth term on the Board of Selectmen, Shafer is the board’s liaison to the Charter Review Committee. He previously served as chairman of the town’s Economic Development Commission. Previously, he worked in the Washington, D.C. office of former U.S. Representative Barbara Kennelly.
Shafer is the son of West Hartford residents Dr. Myron and Maryellen Shafer. He is a board member of the Farmington Valley Jewish Congregation-Emek Shalom in Simsbury.  He also served on the board of the Jewish Community Relations Council of the Jewish Federation of Greater Hartford.
“I am running for this office because of my continued commitment to the best interests and future of Burlington,” said Shafer. “I have extensive municipal and business experience as well as active family involvement in the community. I had a leading role in the town’s CVS pharmacy project and the creation of the Conservation Commission.”
The father of three children currently in the Region 10 school system, Shafer has coached numerous Burlington Junior Soccer Association teams. He is a personal and commercial property and casualty insurance sales and risk management professional.
Shafer is a 1981 graduate of William H. Hall High School in West Hartford and holds a B.S. in Business Administration from Tulane University and an M.B.A. from Alliant University.
