BLOOMFIELD – Paula Baram was honored as “Teacher of the Year” by Beth Hillel Synagogue on Friday, May 14. She was recognized at the Bloomfield shul’s religious school graduation ceremony, held in conjunction with Friday night services, for her dedication to Jewish education as a religious schoolteacher for the past 33 years. The Beth Hillel graduates presented their teacher with a hand-crafted plate clock and spoke about their memorable experiences.
Referring to Jewish educators as members of a “noble profession,” Baram’s father, Judge Jerry Wagner, congratulated his daughter and traced the history of the Beth Hillel Religious School. Baram’s husband, State Representative David Baram, presented his wife with a state citation, noting the way in which she has touched the lives of hundreds of students over the course of her long career. In addition to her work at Beth Hillel, Baram has served as a preschool teacher at the Beatrice Fox Auerbach Early Childhood Center of the Mandell Jewish Community Center for more than three decades. She was named Unique Teacher of the Year by the Greater Hartford Commission on Jewish Education (CJE) in 2005 and received CJE’s Innovative Program Award in 2006.
Baram is also a past president of the Beth Hillel Sisterhood. She holds a Masters degree in early childhood education. Paula and David Baram are the parents of two sons, Danny and Matthew Baram, who both live and work in Los Angeles.
