DETROIT, Mich. – Journalist Helen Thomas, who was forced to resign from Hearst Newspapers in June after telling a rabbi on camera that Israelis should “get the hell out of Palestine” and “go home” to “Poland, Germany and America, and everywhere else,” is at it again.

Although Thomas later apologized for her incendiary remarks, comments she made recently at a conference in Michigan suggest that the 90-year old former White House correspondent and author is anything but repentant.

“To think I can call a president of the United States anything in the book but I can’t touch Israel, which has Jewish-only roads in the West Bank. No American would tolerate that — white-only roads,” said the 90-year old Thomas, who grew up in Detroit and was in Dearborn for an Arab Detroit workshop on anti-Arab bias.

Asked by The Free Press about her comments, which critics have said were anti-Israel, she said, “I paid the price for it. But it was worth it.”

Added Thomas, whose parents were Lebanese immigrants, “The Zionists have to understand that’s their country, too. Palestinians were there long before any European Zionists.”
