Sylvia Zwerdling Fineberg, Trumbull

Sylvia Zwerdling Fineberg, widow of Gabriel Fineberg, age 97 of Trumbull formerly of Bridgeport, died peacefully on Nov. 21, 2010.Mrs. Fineberg was born on November 25, 1912 in Galitzia, Poland and immigrated with her mother, Judith Zwerdling, sister Mildred (Brown) and brothers Meyer and Milton to the United States at the age of eight. The family had been separated from Joseph Zwerdling due to World War I and his efforts to earn money for immigration to the United States. In 1920 the family was reunited in America. The entire family later founded and worked in the family business, the Zwerdling Bakeries, that eventually had stores throughout Fairfield County. Mrs. Fineberg was a graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport and studied at the Parson School of Design. She married her husband Gabriel in 1935. They were married for 54 years. Together they shared in the operation of the Gay-Sil pharmacy on the east side of Bridgeport for 40 years. Mrs. Fineberg was a skilled water colorist and painter. She is survived by her sisters, Bertha Dimand and Marilyn Burstyn; her children, Mrs. Elaine Bader and her husband Edward of Trumbull; Dr. S. Edwin Fineberg and his wife Naomi of Birmingham, Ala.; five grandchildren, Dr. Joel Bader, Mrs. Beth Tepper, Dr. Rachel Oser, Dr. Samuel Fineberg, Dr. Joshua Fineberg; nine great-grandchildren, Rebecca and Brock Bader, Alex and Gabrielle Oser, Oren, Yarden and Sivon Tepper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
