NEW YORK, N.Y. – Evan Bernstein of Stamford has been appointed executive director of The American Friends of Migdal Ohr, an Israeli nonprofit organization that provides programs and services for children at risk.
Bernstein, 36, previously served as national director of development for The David Project Center for Jewish Leadership in Boston.
“Evan brings with him over 12 years of not-for-profit experience and has been involved in all facets of organizational work,” said the organization’s board chairman, Max Thurm.
“I may have moved to a new organization in the Jewish communal world, but my goals are the same: raise money, raise awareness and partner with lay leadership,” Bernstein said. “To have the opportunity to help one of the most significant and relevant nonprofit organizations in Israel is very exciting for me. The work Migdal Ohr does with children at risk and other key groups is ground breaking.”
Berntein also previously served as consultant for the international fundraising firm Community Counselling Service, Inc. and as the Arizona director for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC). He earned a Bachelor’s degree in social work from Western Connecticut State University (WCSU) and a Masters with a concentration in managing nonprofits from Harvard University’s Extension School Graduate Program in Management. While at Harvard he was one of 20 Harvard degree candidates selected to sit on the prestigious Hauser Center for Nonprofit Organizations Student Advisory Board at the Kennedy School of Government. In 2007, he was honored by the WCSU School of Professional Studies with the Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award.
